FORMER Soviet nation and current Nato member Poland has welcomed Ukrainian refugees and provided military support following Russia’s invasion.

Poland and Ukraine share a 535km border, and are both former members of the Soviet Union.
Speaking on a video call with Ukranian military, Zelensky said: “Ukraine is not a member of Nato.
“We have heard for years that the doors were open but we also heard that we could not join.”

But Health Minister Sajid Javid did warn Moscow against attacks on Nato allies.
“We have been very clear, even before the war started, that if there was an attack on any Nato country, even if just a single toecap of a Russian soldier steps into Nato territory then it will be war with Nato and Nato would respond,” Javid said.
“That has not changed throughout this conflict and there would be a significant response from Nato if there was any kind of attack from Russia,” he told Sky News.
However, although Nato aims to provide collective security and mutual defence, since the since the start of the conflict, it has aimed to minimise risks of all out war and denied Ukraine’s requests for a no-fly-zone which could be seen as an act of aggression against Russia.
