St Peter’s Square and St Peter’s Basilica in the Vatican City have been closed off to tourists after Italy’s prime minister Giuseppe Conte placed a lockdown across the entire country over coronavirus. More than 60 million people have been affected by the lockdown since the government extended restrictions on movement from the hard-hit north to the rest of Italy.
