Judge is ‘inspired’ by protesters in Britain when he fines them for M25 demo | UK news

UK protesters praised by judge who fined them for demonstration of the blocked part of M25 last year.

group pleaded guilty to intentionally obstructing of free passage after they disrupted the passage of about 18000 drivers sitting on junction 3 on M25 on September 29th.

Ian Bates, 63, Karen Matthews, 60, and Biff Whipster, 54, told District Judge Stephen Leak in Crowley Magistrates’ Court that they “inspired” him after they spoke about their climate issues while introducing themselves in court.

The judge said, “I heard your voices.

“They have inspired me and personally I intend to do everything in my power to reduce my own influence on planet, so to that extent your voices will certainly be heard.

“These are difficult cases. for us judges, because we must apply the law, and that is what we have sworn to do with our judicial oaths.”

‘I live in insane world’

The protesters said they resorted to “non-violent protest” after exhausting all other means. of emphasizing them cause.

Some cried and held their faces in their hands as they listened to fellow activists talk about the “desperate” situation facing planet.

Bates said “I live in insane world.

“I walk around and people completely and completely unaware of it, immune to it … We bear on like were just we do our job.

“We don’t do our job, we killing all.”

He added: “Highly last thing i have left is to exercise their right to peaceful protest and for this protest to draw attention of British public a hopeless situation for us in.”

The judge said the protesters “without a doubt” acted in a way they thought it was “morally right” but what they did anyway criminal offense.

bates, of Northampton were fined £200, as was Lucy Crawford, 52. of Cambridge and Bethany Maugee, 39 of Hertfordshire.

Xavier Gonzalez-Trimmer, 21, lives in London. who had a criminal record for similar protest offenses were fined £266.

Whipster of Canterbury confessed criminal damage, leaving a “hard crispy layer of glue” on window of police vehicle sticking to it. He was fined £120 as a judge took his financial situation into account.

May Adams, 68 of Greenwich was fined £250 as a referee found her refusal move out of in path of an ambulance is a “serious” aggravating circumstance.

Marguerite Doubleday, 67 of Gloucestershire was fined £150.

Five others – Tim Spears, Daniell Thomas, Peter Morgan, Louise Lancaster and Ian Webb – did not appear in court and were convicted. of willful obstruction of a trial in their absence.

Thomas and Spears were fined £200 and Morgan, who had a criminal record for similar protest offenses were fined £400.

Lancaster was fined £330 and Webb £300.

Two defendants, 28-year-old Gabriella Ditton, of Norwich and 74-year- old Barry Mitchell, of Telford, each of whom pleaded not guilty to willful obstruction, and will appear before Horsham Magistrates’ Court. on May 11th.

Three others, Victoria Lindsell and Michelle Charlesworth, are accused of one think of willful obstruction, and Louis McKechnie charged with criminal damages, their hearings were adjourned until April 28 in Crowley Magistrates’ Court.
