WhatsApp Scam Warning

Introduction

WhatsApp users have been put on guard after being warned about a new scam that allows hackers to take full control of their accounts.

TikTok helped cybersemama expose the scam and urged others not to fall for the thinly disguised scam, according to British newspaper The Sun.

What’s happening?

In detail, “Friend” will start a conversation with you through the messaging app.

But what you’re really talking to is a person who managed to hack your friend’s account, and now he wants to hack yours too.

WhatsApp uses a one-time password verification code to verify the identity of users associated with an account holder’s phone number.

However, hackers have taken advantage of this feature to steal people’s accounts.

WhatsApp Code

In this context, Tik Toker explained in the video that you will receive an official message from the application with your WhatsApp code.

Then someone who “should be a friend” will ask you for this code, claiming to have sent it to your number by mistake.

This means that your friend’s WhatsApp has been hacked.

If a hacker gets the code, he can access your account.

It should be noted that the text itself says: “Do not share this code with others.”

How to Protect Yourself

It’s easy to “feel a false sense of security” when talking to a friend.

However, there is no real reason for anyone, friend or family member to send their verification code to your phone number. Tik Toker stressed: “Don’t give them this. If you do, they can hack your entire account!”

What you need to do is block the account that asked you for the code and try to contact your friend through some other form of communication to let them know that their account has been hacked.
