Former president donald trump criticized federal prosecutors’ decision to drop the fees against a team of employees of by Stephen Colbert The late show who were arrested while filming a segment in the Capitol complex after hours last month.

“Wow! Prosecutors just dropped all charges against the disputed rankings of Colbert Show staffers, who illegally entered the Capitol, ignored police warnings, did not leave the premises, and were very loud and disruptive late into the evening with no security present as required by law.. These far left lunatics from a failed show were treated so differently than the Unselects treat so many of our great patriots Americans,” Trump said on Truth Social on Tuesday.

The U.S. Attorney’s Office for the District of Columbia dropped charges against the crew, which included Robert Smigelwho voices Triumph the Insult Comic Dog, saying in a statement that staff members were brought into the building by house staff but were unaccompanied when arrested.

“We do not believe it is likely that the Bureau will be able to obtain and maintain convictions on these charges,” the bureau said.

Trump and Fox News host Jesse Watters absurdly compared what the Colbert crew did to January 6 in a thinly veiled attempt to defend what happened that day.

Trump has no credibility to be outraged that people are illegally in the Capitol complex, given that a mob of his supporters stormed the Capitol on January 6 in an attack on the American democracy that has become deadly.

Despite Trump’s statement, the rioters were anything but “patriots,” and the president let the riot rage on for hours without taking any action to stop it.

Colbert’s staff, meanwhile, were on the scene conducting interviews and, abandoned by two congressional staffers, were doing a final shoot in a hallway of the Longworth House Office Building when they were arrested.

“The individuals, who entered the building twice, were asked by congressional staffers to enter the building each time and were never asked to leave by the staffers who invited them. , although band members were notified at various times. by the United States Capitol Police that they were supposed to have an escort,” the U.S. Attorney’s Office for the District of Columbia said in a statement.

Watters was disdainful of indignation on Jan. 6, but on his Monday show he expressed disgust at prosecutors who declined the charge Last show staffers he called “The Colbert Nine” and “a group of Democratic insurgents” he falsely accused of “raping the Capitol”. While Colbert’s crew weren’t supposed to be in the building unaccompanied, what they did was clearly not an insurrection.

Needless to say, the offense committed by Colbert’s crew doesn’t even come close to what the Trump mob did on Jan. 6. The opposite could only be believed if they accepted the totally false account that the January 6 rioters were only tourists walk around the Capitol.
