A bill has been submitted to the US Congress that prohibits the President of the United States from making a decision on the use of nuclear weapons without the approval of members of Congress. This was reported by the press office of Democratic Senator Ed Markey, co-author of the nuclear amendment.
The drafters of the bill, Ed Markey and Ted Lew, are convinced that the US president has been given excessively broad powers in the nuclear field.
“No president has the constitutional right or authority to unilaterally declare war, let alone launch a nuclear strike,” Marki said in a statement.
The bill introduced in Congress introduces a system of checks and balances to deny the owner of the White House the right to single-handedly dispose of nuclear weapons.
Earlier, it was reported that Markey and Lew had sought a veto on the president’s right to decide on a nuclear strike without congressional approval for seven years.
