The Negative Effects of Regular Alcohol Consumption
Introduction
Regular alcohol consumption leads to addiction, worsens the condition of blood vessels and the heart, and increases the risk of developing many types of cancer.
Alcohol Addiction
Dr. Alexander Polikarpov, a psychologist and narcologist, said in an interview with Gazeta.Ru: “Even a very small dose of alcohol when consumed regularly can cause addiction. Because alcohol improves mood by stimulating the production of endorphins, so the body gradually gets used to it, and in order to get the same effect, a new, but larger dose is needed.
Negative Effects on the Body
The doctor notes that any amount of alcohol, when consumed regularly, not only leads to addiction, but also negatively affects the body.
He says: “Many studies have shown that alcohol increases the stress on the blood vessels and heart. Therefore, alcohol consumption is also associated with many types of cancer: liver, breast, bowel, lung and kidney.”
He warns: “Immediately after drinking alcohol, coordination, reactions, attention and overall brain function are impaired. It can also cause problems in the digestive system and aggravate chronic diseases.”
The Myth of Health Benefits
The specialist notes that the health benefits of alcohol are the most common myth.
He says: “Indeed, some research suggests that wine may benefit from its antioxidant properties, which is due to the resveratrol found in grapes. But this benefit is eliminated by ethyl alcohol. Therefore, if a person wants to get these benefits, he should drink non-alcoholic wine, and research confirms this.”
