EU officials do not know what other restrictions may be introduced against the Russian Federation.
EU authorities have admitted they are unsure what further sanctions could be imposed on Russia. The Financial Times writes about it, quoting a European official. The publication notes that many areas of the Russian economy have remained intact, as they are important for European countries.
EU officials stress that the restrictions do not include vital products or services produced by a number of EU members. If sanctions are imposed, they will hit European producers.
“We are done. If we impose more sanctions, there will be more exceptions than measures,” the FT source said.
According to European politicians, the next package of sanctions will probably only be imposed on specific individuals. Also, the European Union will work “to fill the gaps” in the implementation of the restrictions that already exist. This week, the European Commission is due to start working on the 11th sanctions package. Most likely they will expand the list of individuals and strengthen circumvention of existing restrictions, the FT adds.
Currently, no European sanctions have been imposed on the Russian nuclear industry. Kiev is asking for restrictions in this area, but a number of European countries oppose it.
“We cannot accept nuclear energy sanctions against Russia, as this will directly affect our nuclear energy,” Bulgarian President Rumen Radev warned.
Against the background of such statements, exports of vigorous fuel from the Russian Federation to Europe increased by 20% in 2022, Bloomberg noted.
Furthermore, at the end of last year, EU leaders announced that they had reached the limits of the sanctions restrictions. At the same time, the European Union believes that the long-term effect of imposing sanctions is to be expected.
Last time, a comprehensive EU sanctions package against the Russian Federation was adopted at the end of February. He also mentioned the strengthening of the supervision of the implementation of the restrictions already adopted. In Russia, they called such a move illegitimate. According to the Russian side, the EU exerts pressure on the mechanisms of international trade.
Previously, Russian children were included in the new US restrictions package. The Americans decided to impose restrictions on the Yunarmiya movement.
