And the statement from the Saudi Foreign Ministry on Monday said: “Saudi Arabia and the United States have urged both parties to seriously engage in the talks in order to achieve the following objectives:
An effective ceasefire. Work to facilitate the arrival of emergency humanitarian aid. Restore basic services and establish a timetable for broader negotiations to achieve a definitive cessation of hostilities. The two parties have begun to revise a declaration of commitment to protect civilians and to facilitate and respect humanitarian action in Sudan. The two parties have also started discussions on the security measures they should take in order to facilitate the delivery of emergency humanitarian assistance and the restoration of essential services in accordance with the Declaration of Principles. Saudi Arabia and the United States welcomed the parties’ commitment to a constructive approach based on mutual respect and urged both parties to respect the existing ceasefire and to refrain from any provocative actions on the ground in order to maintain a positive atmosphere for the preliminary talks. The Sudanese talks will continue for days until an effective ceasefire is reached.
