Qatar ranked third in the world in terms of the use of social networks relative to the population, according to the results published by the Data Reportal platform.

In addition to Qatar, 4 Arab countries entered the top ten in the list of social network usage, which are the UAE, Bahrain, Lebanon and the Sultanate of Oman.

According to CNN, this shows that social media is highly popular in the Middle East and North Africa region, with a much higher adoption rate across many platforms compared to other countries.

And last February, a report by DataReportal revealed data and statistics showing the public’s use of the Internet and social networking sites in Qatar and their digital behaviors during the year 2023.

According to the website specialized in providing reports and digital data for the population around the world, the number of Internet users in Qatar at the beginning of 2023 reached about 2.68 million users, and the Internet penetration rate reached 99%. The number of active cell phones reached 4.89 million, which is equivalent to 180.9% of the total population.

The number of social media users reached 2.62 million users in Qatar in January 2023, equivalent to 96.8% of the total population, and 2.56 million of them are aged 18 years and over. The percentage of females was 28.3% of social media users, compared to 71.7% of males.

The data also indicates that Facebook had 1.95 million users in Qatar in early 2023, or about 83.6% of the eligible audience, over 13 years old, in Qatar using Facebook. Instagram has 1.10 million users, 2.14 million TikTok users, 975.0 thousand Snapchat users, and 1.05 million Twitter users.

There are now 4.76 billion social media users worldwide, just under 60% of the world’s total population. Social media user growth has slowed in recent months, with 137 million new users added this year, equating to just 3% annual growth.

The data shows that global spending on social media advertising has more than doubled since the outbreak of the coronavirus, reaching $226 billion in 2022.
