The latest victim of unruly behavior by audiences at a concert is Grammy-winning artist Harry Styles. He was struck in the face by an unidentified object during a sold-out show in Vienna, Austria. This contributes to an alarming pattern where pop stars are being targeted at concerts, be it in a stadium or at a smaller venue.
This is not the first time Harry Styles has been struck during a performance. A bouquet of flowers hit him in Wales and he had a handful of Skittles thrown at him in Los Angeles. In recent times, Bebe Rexha was hit in the face with a cell phone thrown from the crowd. Within a week of that incident, Kelsea Ballerini also got hit in the face. Taking things even further, an intruder slapped emerging artist Ava Max during a concert. In another disturbing incident, someone threw their mother’s ashes at Pink during a concert in London.

The decline in show etiquette is not the most concerning factor in all of this, it is the safety of the artists during a concert. When celebrity performers like Harry Styles are attacked so easily, how safe are budding artists with much less security? It’s hard to tell why people who are buying very expensive tickets to concerts are doing this – risking their own freedom.

Some artists are understandably enraged and they are not mincing their words. During her Vegas residency show, Adele made it clear that she’ll not tolerate any disrespectful behavior. She emphatically warned that if someone dared to throw something at her, she would “kill” that individual.
Incidents like these raise a lot of questions. Are people increasingly upset about the growing ticket prices? Are they reacting to political or social stands taken by their favorite artists? Is it all an attempt at gathering negative publicity? It is hard to tell, but it has to stop.
