Both aircrafts were seen plummeting from the skies engulfed in flames as they slammed into the ground in the Bryansk region.

Conflicting reports have clouded whether the Russian government is responsible for the incident.

At first, the state news agency TASS reported the Mi-8 crashed due to “the engine catching on fire” citing preliminary information.

A source told TASS: “As of now, helicopter debris has been located.

“A fire started following the crash, it was extinguished quickly.

The people who were abroad [the helicopter] are dead.”

However, a video posted on the Russian pro-war Telegram channel, Voyenniy Osvedomitel, showed a helicopter high in the sky exploding, being thrown off course and then plunging earthwards in flames.

And some war pundits have claimed it was downed due to a “friendly fire” accident.

It then later emerged that a Su-34 bomber also crashed in the same region.

Two pilots who were onboard were reportedly killed in the crash, Telegram channel Mash said.

Its post read: “The pilot and the navigator were unable to eject.

“Their bodies have been located, the crash site has been cordoned off.”

Kyiv has not made an official statement surrounding the incident.
