Nintendo has outdone itself with this stunning remaster of the GameCube classic. Metroid Prime is now confirmed as one of their greatest works, far surpassing all expectations.
Nintendo has had a few unfortunate consoles, yet the GameCube was quite different since none of its best games were from the regular popular franchises. This generation’s Super Mario, Zelda, and Mario Kart titles are presumably some of the worst in each series’ history. On the other hand, exhilarating new entries like Paper Mario, Super Smash Bros., F-Zero, and Metroid took center stage as some of this console’s greatest hits.
While some people may claim that Metroid is part of the same legendary Nintendo trinity as Super Mario and Zelda, this isn’t true. The games are all high-quality products, but none compare to each other in terms of commercial success or total entries. Shockingly enough for those who started with an N64 console; there was no Metroid game available on it. But if you did get your hands on Metroid Prime then you know just how amazing it truly is.
Nintendo faced a serious problem when it had to convert the 2D Metroid game into 3D for its N64 console. So, instead of forcing themselves to create something that would be unsuccessful, they gave Retro Studios the chance to reinvent the series as a first-person title on GameCube. As a result, a 3D recreation of Metroid stands up there alongside Super Mario 64 and Zelda: Ocarina Of Time.
The Metroid timeline is entangled to a similar degree as Zelda’s. But the narrative in Prime is more clearly defined than in most other games. As always, we take control of Samus Aran, a bounty hunter who ironically never takes part in hunting bounties. This time around, she investigates a group of space pirates attempting to breed monsters through Phazon. Phazon is an element found only on Tallon IV; the former homeworld of the alien Chozo. Chozo raised Samus when she was young.
With its first-person perspective and dual stick control, this game may feel like a shooter; but, it is not. As with Ocarina of Time’s Z-trigger, you have a powerful lock-on that does all the targeting for you. Exploration and puzzle-solving are at the forefront of your journey as you traverse through an interconnected world map while recovering new weapons and equipment. There are intense battles including remarkable encounters with bosses too.
From the magical menu music to each of its high-quality soundtracks, this video game immerses you in a one-of-a-kind atmosphere like no other. Despite what some may think about backtracking and respawning enemies (which were also features in the original games), these elements all work together to create an experience that will keep your attention captivated from start to finish.
