Easter is one of the main holidays of the Orthodox. Why Easter cakes and eggs have become symbols of the bright celebration, explained Maria Isaeva, cantor of the Church of the Transfiguration of the Lord.
According to her, with the advent of Christianity in Russia, ordinary bread began to be called Easter cake due to its similarity in shape to the church.
“Kulich reminds everyone that Jesus brought religion to our land,” Isaeva told online publication Podmoskovye Segodnya.
The most popular version of colored eggs is the legend of Mary Magdalene, who was the first to announce the news of the Savior’s resurrection. At this event, she had an egg with her.
“After the Romans ridicule, the egg turned red, letting everyone know the girl wasn’t lying,” the singer noted.
Earlier, the “Main Regional” reported that the Orthodox custom of visiting cemeteries for Easter is unrelated to the church.
