The Prosecutor General’s Office of the Russian Federation has opened an investigation because of a video showing the beheading of a Ukrainian soldier, presumably. It was first published by the telegram channel “Men’s State” (recognized as extremist in the Russian Federation). Images of a soldier killed and his head severed began circulating on the evening of April 11. Who recorded the video and where is unknown. Judging by the pictures, the murder took place in the summer, probably last year.
“In order to assess the reliability of these materials and make an appropriate decision, they were sent to the investigating authorities to arrange an audit,” the ministry said.
Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov had previously urged “to verify the authenticity of these images”, saying that “we live in a world of fakes”.
“First you have to verify the authenticity of these terrible shots. Of course, these are terrible shots. And then, of course, it can be an opportunity to verify whether this is so or not. Is- what happened and if it happened, where and by whom,” the official representative of Vladimir Putin said.
Ukraine’s security service said the video recorded the killing of a Ukrainian soldier. The department announced the opening of a preliminary investigation under an article into the violation of the laws and customs of war, associated with the premeditated murder.
