At the moment, surgeons in the republic do not celebrate their professional holiday, because it simply does not exist. At the same time, for many years the National Society of Surgeons of the Kyrgyz Republic has been organizing various international events in the country on October 1, in which local and foreign specialists take part. In particular, they exchange experiences, talk about the achievements of medical science and new ways of working with a scalpel.
Such meetings take place on the first of October precisely because Mambet Mamakeev, an outstanding Kyrgyz surgeon, was born on this day, whose name is in the Guinness Book of Records. Today he is the oldest specialist in the world, continuing to perform several operations a day.
– Mambet Mamakeev – full horseman of the “Manas” order, the hero of Kyrgyzstan. It is part of the history not only of republican surgery, domestic medicine and medical education, but also of the entire Kyrgyz people. Mamakeev is recognized not only in the country, but also abroad, the government notes.
The establishment of the First of October as the Day of the Surgeon in the Kyrgyz Republic, as emphasized by the Cabinet, will have a positive impact on the development of Kyrgyz medicine and strengthen its authority abroad.

In 2020, the Ministry of Health of the Kyrgyz Republic planned to establish the Day of the Cardiac Surgeon in the republic. The ministry has proposed to celebrate the professional holiday of cardiologists on May 19 every year in Kyrgyzstan. On this day in 1959, an important event took place in the Kyrgyz SSR – academician Isa Akhunbaev performed the first heart operation in the Central Asian region at the Republican Clinical Hospital. It was a closed digital commissurotomy, prescribed for the fusion of the leaflets of the mitral valve.
At 50, Isa Akhunbaev, leading a team of doctors, spent four months training in Moscow with Academician Alexander Bakulev at the Institute of Thoracic Surgery (now Bakulev National Medical Research Center for cardiovascular surgery). After doctors returned to Kyrgyzstan, Akhunbaev’s main dream was to perform the first heart operation in the history of the Union Republic. It was from May 19, 1959 that the countdown to Kyrgyz heart surgery began.
Despite the proposal of the Ministry of Health, there is still no day of the cardiac surgeon among the professional holidays in Kyrgyzstan. However, doctors celebrate it on an unofficial level.
