“The Tutor” Will Debut on Netflix in July Amidst Mostly Negative Reviews

The Tutor directed by Jordan Ross and produced by Vertical Entertainment released in theaters in March this year. Shortly after release, the film was made available on video on demand platforms. Now, Netflix has acquired the streaming rights and the film will be available on Netflix US in July 2023. There has been no word about the availability of the film in other regions.

The Tutor is a psychological thriller that follows an in demand tutor who is recruited to teach a billionaire’s son. The student becomes obsessed with the teacher and the story takes a dark turn as some secrets and some mysteries are revealed.

While the premise of the film is not uninteresting, the screenplay and its execution could both have been much better according to most critics. Sean Means from The Movie Cricket went on to say, “It’s surprising that “The Tutor” didn’t end up in the less-traveled end of a Netflix queue — because if idiotic psychological thrillers like this one escape their natural habitat, what are streaming services good for?”

Proving Means’ prediction right, the film has landed on Netflix and is set for a July debut. Should you invest your time in this? Well, if you are looking for a tightly knit nail-biting psycho-thriller, this will probably disappoint you. The movie got a 25% score on rotten tomatoes from critics and 55% from the audiences.

But if you don’t mind a few logic flaws and want to have a fun watch, you can go for it as critic Julian Roman from MovieWeb said, “The Tutor suffers from major logic flaws. It keeps you hooked to a pulpy climax with a devilish turn. The big reveal is improbable and unrealistic, but fun villainy to watch.
