Rules for a Healthy Summer Diet for Children, According to a Russian Nutritionist

Dr. Tatyana Meshcheryakova, a Russian nutritionist, revealed some of the rules for a healthy diet for children in the summer.

Increasing Protein Intake

According to Dr. Meshcheryakova, it is necessary to increase the amount of protein in the diet of children. Amino acids are a necessary substance for protein synthesis in the body, especially during growth.

Avoiding Empty Calories

The expert advises parents to limit the content of the so-called “empty calories” in the children’s diet, which are found in cookies, cakes, sweets, and more. Instead, it is recommended to replace them with vegetables and fruits rich in vitamins and minerals.

Increase in Calorie Intake

Dr. Meshcheryakova suggests that the number of calories in children’s daily food should be 15-20 percent higher than the usual norm so that the child has additional energy.
