Directors of the non-profit partnership “Wikimedia RU” may lose their posts due to the announcement of the creation of the Russian analogue of “Wikipedia”. This was announced to Russian media by Stanislav Kozlovsky, executive director of NP Wikimedia RU (engaged in the development of the Russian segment of Wikipedia).
He pointed out that no decision has been made yet, but on the evening of May 24, the leadership of the NP “Wikimedia RU” will discuss the possibility of depriving Medeiko of her powers.
On the creation of the Russian analogue of “Wikipedia” on May 24 informed Member of the State Duma Committee on Information Policy, Information Technology and Communications Anton Gorelkin. He said that Russian Wikipedia would be hosted on Russian servers and a Russian legal entity would take over management.
The creation of the Russian analogue of Wikipedia, according to Gorelkin, will be “the same people who worked on the Russian section of Wikipedia all this time and could not do anything so that it did not turn into a fertile ground for counterfeits.
“Unfortunately, (I) know. It turns out that the director of Wikimedia RU Vladimir Medeiko was secretly preparing such a project. Today there will be a general meeting on the deprivation of his leadership powers, “said Stanislav Kozlovsky at Russian media.
He noted that anyone can engage in their own projects, but using the powers of the director of Wikimedia RU for this, in his opinion, “is not very pleasant”.
“Anyone can make their own projects, it’s not forbidden to anyone, and Wikipedia is distributed under a free license, anyone can take content from Wikipedia and use it, it’s completely normal. It’s not It is not normal to use the powers of the director of Wikimedia RU for this and to do it in a completely secret way for several years,” Kozlovsky stressed.

In April, the head of the department saidthat the resource is still under development.
