The African Union Transitional Mission in Somalia (ATMIS) has renewed its commitment to continue supporting the Somali security forces to enhance security, stability and development efforts in the country.

In a statement from the Somali capital, Mogadishu, Acting Mission Commander Marius Ngandabanka said they are tasked with reducing the threat posed by the terrorist group Al-Shabaab, supporting the capacity-building of Somali integrated security forces, and the phased handover of security responsibilities to Somalia.

He added that AMISOM continues with the Somali security forces to plan, coordinate and carry out joint targeted operations across sectors to deny terrorists freedom of movement and in many cases weaken Al-Shabaab, stressing that the mission is committed to fulfilling its mandate and mandate from both the United Nations Security Council and the Peace and Security Council. to the African Union.
