The attack happened shortly after 3pm at Kurrajong Campground at Cape Range National Park

Emergency crews from St John rushed to the scene and treated the boy on the beach.

The 11-year-old was airlifted by the Royal Flying Doctors Service.

He remains in stable condition at Exmouth Hospital

A shark alert has been issued in the area as swimmers were urged to take extra caution in the water.

Beaches were closed from Pilgramunna north to Bloodwood Creek in Cape Range National Park.

Earlier this week a similar attack happened off the coast of Western Australia when a professional surfer had to fight back a beast.

Max Marsden, 30, was enjoying an early morning surf session when a shark took a chunk out of his arm.

Previously a swimmer was left fighting for his life after being bitten by a shark off the coast of Hawaii.

Medics said that the man, 58, was given life-saving treatment at the scene and was in a serious condition.
