View of Germany - what travelers should beware of at Easter

Abroad, the ADAC also waits in queues on the western, Tauern and Brenner motorways in Austria, on the Swiss Gotthard road and at the main border crossings.

A classic advice, which unfortunately few people follow: it does not hurt to prepare alternative routes in advance. After all, real-time navigation systems use the same data – therefore they send vacationers along the same routes in real time.

If you are traveling with pets, you should remember not only your passport, but also your pet’s passport. For dogs, cats and ferrets, crossing the border is generally relatively easy. But if you want to take your rabbit with you on vacation to Italy, you will have to deal with a lot of documents.

When transporting all pets in a car, it is important to ensure that the four-legged friends do not overheat, that they have enough air, that they can move around and – as well as the drivers – stop regularly along the way.

Deutsche Bahn increases its timetables

Deutsche Bahn is expanding its train fleet this year, introducing an average of three new ICE trains per month, which should provide “enough capacity” for Easter. However, construction sites in western Germany, especially in the Ruhr area, can lead to significant restrictions.

A glimmer of hope for travellers: the railway union has ruled out strikes over the Easter weekend. Booking train tickets from today to tomorrow can cost a pretty penny. Saving Tip: Use Gruppentickets and Verbundtickets when cooperating with friends and neighbors.

It is also worth paying attention to private carriers such as Flixtrain or Flixbus, they often offer lower prices. Solo travelers can find carpooling opportunities on platforms like BlaBla–Car.

The situation at airports is no less tense. The Easter travel wave will likely be the first major test for ground services handling passengers and baggage.

Strikes at the airport

Security personnel strike at Heathrow in London. Strikes in France and a series of strikes at 17 Spanish airports could negatively affect flight punctuality. As a result, there are currently possible delays for intra-European flights.

Cold but sunny weather

Easter weekend should be cold but sunny, so a bike ride might be a good idea. The Berlin-Usedom or Weser route is particularly popular with two-wheelers, but cycling through the city can also be a great alternative.
