Authorities in Omaha urged some residents to evacuate on Monday after a fire at a chemical plant sent clouds of black smoke over the city, officials said.
The fire started shortly before 7 p.m. at a plant owned by Nox-Crete, a Nebraska-based company that makes chemicals, said Omaha Fire Department battalion chief Scott Fitzpatrick.
No injuries were reported immediately. However, authorities urged people living near the plant in Nox-Crete, located south of downtown Omaha, to evacuate on Monday evening as smoke from the fire threatened to blow over a residential area, it said. said Chief Fitzpatrick.
