Detective captures world of academia as stolen Charles Darwin’s notebooks are back after 20 years

When Charles Darwin first sketched tree of A life in but small notebook, he took in first step to a decision one of humanity’s greatest secrets.

Nearly 200 years later, university librarians of Cambridge face Another seemingly unsolvable question: how made two of its extremely valuable notebooks, stolen 22 years ago suddenly reappear in ideal condition, in pink gift bag outside in head librarian office?

small leather-bound notebooks containing Darwin’s famous 1837 sketch have gone missing. in 2000.

Initially, they were supposed to be placed on shelves, and employees carried out advanced search at your fingertips in library, home about 10 million books, maps, manuscripts and others items.

In 2020 they were registered as stolen to the Cambridgeshire Police, who then launched an investigation and notified Interpol, while the university made worldwide attraction for information.

Fast forward 18 months and two books resurfaced after an elusive thief brought them back in immaculate condition in pink gift bag wrapped in cling film, next to a printed note: “Librarian. Christ is risen. X.”

They were left on in floor of but public area of library outside librarian office on morning of 9th of March. The police investigation into the disappearance of the notebooks and their subsequent return is ongoing.
